In November 2011, we came across a buffalo along the S25. It had died of natural causes and was still fully intact. A few hours after we found it, a veterinary ranger came along to take some tissue samples in order to check if it had any diseases.
Mere minutes after he left, the first vultures came flying in, soon followed by the spotted hyena’s.
In the following 3 days the carcass was consumed entirely by the scavengers.
